TAMPA, FL — For many Americans, St. Patrick’s Day means green-tinted beer, corned beef and, well, debauchery. A non-scientific study by Wallethub.com — it’s St. Patrick’s Day, and we’re all about the fun – ranks Tampa as the eighth-best place in the country for the wearing of the green.

This year, St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday, so Tampa Bay residents can expect to consume a gallons of green beer in Irish pubs throughout the area. If you’re looking for something to do, here’s a wrap-up of St. Patrick’s Day activities.

Mayor’s River O’ Green Fest

For the seventh year, Tampa will host its Mayor’s River O’ Green Fest. Mayor Bob Buckhorn’s leprechauns will dye the Hillsborough River a shade of Kelly Green in preparation for the festivities at Saturday, March 17, at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, 600 N. Ashley Drive, Tampa.

The celebration begins at 9:30 a.m. with a 2-mile River O’ Green Gallop fun run and walk along Tampa’s Riverwalk. The $25 registration fee includes a vintage-style Mayor Bob Buckhorn Mayor’s River O’ Green T-shirt, a River O’ Green Gallop Bib and a registration bag. Click here for more details.

The festivities continue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the traditional dying of the Hillsborough River, a leprechaun costume contest, a family scavenger hunt search for leprechauns, food and drink vendors with an all-you-can-eat brunch crawl from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Just for the adults, a Shamrock Scavenger Crawl combines solving puzzles, exploring downtown Tampa, having a great time and getting a cold beverage or two along the way. Tickets include a swag bag, souvenir St. Patrick’s beads, a free commute on the TECO Line Streetcar System, bar games, raffles and free or discounted food and drinks.

The Shamrock Scavenger Crawl begins at 4 p.m. with registration available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sign up with teams of two to five here.

Hyde Park Village Paddyfest

Those of Irish descent and those who merely pretend can also celebrate for the seventh year at Paddyfest, presented by Tito’s Handmade Vodka. This includes the ever-raucous Hyde Park Village Paddyfest Street Festival down Rome Avenue March 16 starting at 4 p.m. and March 17 from 1 p.m. to midnight. The event features nonstop entertainment on the Guinness Stage including headliners Magic Giant and We the Kings. Meanwhile, Irish 31 Pub House & Eatery at 1611 W. Swann Ave., in Old Hyde Park will host a St. Patrick’s Day party to beat the band.

Other Paddyfest activities include:

* K9s in Kilts costume contest for dogs at Hyde Park Village, 744 South Village Circle, Thursday, March 15, from 6 to 9 p.m.

* Shake Your Shamrock Shake 5K run/walk and scavenger hunt Friday, March 16 from 5 to 11 p.m.

* Car Bomb Wing-Eating Challenge at Irish 31 Pub House & Eatery Saturday from 3:15 to 4 p.m.

* Third annual Flip Cup Tournament Saturday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

* Keggs & Eggs brunch at Irish 31 on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. featuring green bear, mimosas and build-your-own bloody Marys.

* The Fourth Annual Blarney Bike Ride will take place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ferg’s Live, 490 Channelside Drive, Tampa. The $40 registration fee includes participation in the Blarney Bike Ride and Giant Bike Build in which participants assemble 20 bikes for needy kids, ,a T-shirt, an entry to win a custom Tito’s Cruiser and entrance to the Paddyfest Street Festival.

Rough Riders St. Patrick’s Night Parade

It wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s Day in Tampa without the Rough Riders St. Patrick’s Night Parade. This 40-year tradition down Seventh Avenue in Ybor City kicks off Saturday at 8 p.m. with green beads, floats and entertainment.

Bradley’s on 7th at 1510 E. 7th Ave., will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a Rough Riders parade viewing party featuring two themed drag shows starring Joey Brooks, Kori Stevens and Tiffany McCray and dancing to music by VJ Charles Machado and DJ Steve Vaughn starting at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Paddy Hard

An indoor/outdoor party with music by Mighty Mango and DJ’s Flaco, Casper and Ku Duel are in store for St. Paddy’s Day revelers at Franklin Manor, 912 N. Franklin St., Tampa. The event will include roaming leprechauns and green frose all evening. The block party end at 1 a.m. but the party at the manor continues until 3 a.m. Saturday, March 17.

Dubliner St. Patrick’s Day Party
The Dubliner knows how to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and it’s doing it again with a huge party starting with an Irish brunch that turns into an all-day party with live entertainment, Irish dancers, green beer, games, giveaways and Irish food from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The Dubliner Irish Pub is located at 2307 W. Azeele St., Tampa.

Four Green Fields Double Header

Four Green Fields will host a St. Patrick’s Day Double Header, a two-day party with authentic Irish food, beer and music by Derek Warfield and the Young Wolfe Tones. It takes place at Four Green Fields, 205 W Platt St., Tampa, Friday and Saturday

Celebrate the Green at MacDinton’s

MacDinton’s Irish Pub is “the place to be seen in your green. The pub at 405 S. Howard Ave., Tampa, will host a party with corned beef hash, Irish bagpipers, DJ music for dancing and live entertainment from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday.

St. Pat’s Yard Party

Yard of Ale, 406 S Howard Ave., Tampa, will host a St. Patrick’s Day party from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday with green beer, green tea shots, pizza, hot dogs and music by DJ Xplicid.

St. Patrick’s River Cruise
The Yacht Starship, anchored at 603 Channelside Drive, Tampa, will host a St. Patrick’s Day-themed cruise Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. with unlimited green beer (21 and older only), DJ dancing, a cash bar and a menu with Guinness braised lamb, Irish stew, Irish whiskey-seared salmon and corned beef. St. Patrick’s Day Shenanigans

Enjoy an Irish-themed drag show by Amy, Alisa, Amanda and cast at The Honey Pot, 1507 E. 7th Ave., Tampa, from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday, March 16. The event will feature music by DJs Joe Gauthreaux and Deanne, $2 shamrock shooters all night, $1 drinks from 10 to 11 p.m., $3 Svedka drinks from 10 p.m. to midnight and sexy leprechaun go-go dancers.

St. Patrick’s Day Hangover Cure

Then return on Sunday for your cure for the St. Patrick’s Day hangover with an all-you-can-eat brunch and bottomless Bloody Mary and Mimosa at District Tavern, 116 N 12th St., Tampa, from noon to 5 p.m.
